The course is designed to provide personnel, who may be working near water, with sufficient knowledge to be aware of the hazards created by this environment. During this course, delegates will gain a full understanding of related water rescue techniques.
The course is predominantly classroom based, with content being related to their work environment. The training provided in this course will enable students to identify the risks around them and to be able to apply safe systems of work to prevent them being placed in danger.
This course is delivered at River Dart Country Park/ DSFRS Access and Rescue Academy.
Who is this course for?
Open enrolment – The course is for those personnel who may have to work near water as part of their occupation, ranging from emergency service flexible duty response officers and support staff to construction and maintenance workers – this course is compliant with the DEFRA concept of flood operations Level 1.
- Minimum age: 18
- Medically fit and healthy
- Previous experience of water or swimming ability is not required
- Health & safety
- Personal protective equipment
- Risks and hazards of the water environment
- Safe systems of work
- Use of basic rescue equipment.
- All delegates will receive the ‘Rescue 3 Water Awareness’ manual for post course reference
Assessment & certification
Continuous practical assessment and a written test.
Upon successful completion of the course, a DSFRS certificate of attendance will be issued. Rescue 3 certification is awarded at awareness water rescue; students should re-qualify every three years.
