Anyone wishing to drive a Devon County Council vehicle with a passenger seating capacity of up to 16 seats on Devon County Council business or for Devon County Council schools must first obtain the County’s Certificate of Competence to drive such a vehicle. The candidate must also have the D1 category on their driving licence.
If they do not have the D1 category, they can only drive a vehicles up to 3,500kg MAM with up to 8 passenger seats. They can also obtain the Certificate of Competence to drive this vehicle with us too.
If you are not driving a Devon County Council vehicle, you can still complete the minibus training and gain the Certificate of Competence. Many people do this for ‘best practice’.
The purpose of the course is to ensure that you are driving a Devon County Council minibus in a safe and acceptable manner, to a standard either commensurate with or better than the standard you achieved at the time you took your original minibus test. It is also an opportunity for you to review and refresh your skills under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
Courses we offer:
• 1 Hour Minibus Refresher (£96) – solely practical training for people who have driven a minibus before
• 1 Hour Minibus Test (£96) – includes theory based test to ensure knowledge is up to date. Also for people who have driven a minibus before.
• 1 Day Minibus Familiarisation Course (£180) – full day of training (including test) covering pre-driving checks, familiarisation with the vehicle, manoeuvring and controlled stops, and then progresses to training on the public highway. Most types of road and traffic situations will be covered. The day usually starts at 8:45 am and finishes at around 4:30 pm
All certificate holders must undergo refresher training every four years.
