The aim of this 5 day PPVI BTEC Level 3 course is to train candidates to safely and competently plan and deliver theoretical / practical training sessions in the use of positive pressure ventilation. This specialist course enables Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT) instructors to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to underpin firefighting procedures.
The course supports a safer working environment for firefighters during the various stages of fire development which may be encountered on the incident ground. Delegates will demonstrate the ability to effectively use Positive Pressure Ventilation techniques, entry and air control techniques and how to implement emergency procedures, if required. Delegates will also demonstrate the ability to use a PPV training facility and will be able to apply the manufacturer’s user guidance and current good practice techniques.
Who is this course for?
Open enrollment – Delegates should be experienced in compartment firefighting. For Fire & Rescue Service staff and members of Industrial Fire Teams, who are responsible for the delivery of training and development in Positive Pressure Ventilation at all service levels.
Delegates must be competent users of Breathing Apparatus.
- Medically fit for operational duties in accordance with fire service requirements
- Delegates must be experienced in compartment fire fighting
- Delegates must attend with full fire kit conforming to current standards
- Be able to use Microsoft Office or equivalent office suite

Assessment & certification
Portfolio evidence will be gathered by means of practical exercises, theory sessions, professional discussion, written assignments and personal statements. The learning outcomes are aligned to the BTEC Level 3 award in The Theory and Application of Positive Pressure Ventilation.
Delegates who successfully complete the course and submit their evidence portfolio will be awarded a BTEC Certificate at Level 3 in Positive Pressure Ventilation Training.
