Course Overview

This Maritime Firefighting Incident Command – Crew & Watch Manager course is made up of 18 guided learning hours, including 10 hours of e-learning. This course facilitates the National Occupational Standards WM7 – Lead and Support people to resolve operational incidents.

The course also provides students with knowledge and understanding through classroom based learning, demonstration, practical exercises and simulation, in essential aspects of Marine Fire Fighting Incident Command for Level 1.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for staff who may have a role being initial Incident Commander of an incident on board a vessel which may be alongside or on other waterways. This could include individuals who are in charge of a specialist fire fighting team from a Local Authority Fire & Rescue Service or employees engaged as crew on a vessel, who have fire fighting responsibilities.

Course requirements

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Medically fit and healthy – a medical form will be required
  • Students are required to be competent in Fire Service Incident Command procedures or equivalent

Course content

The course comprises from following modules:

  •     Maritime legislation.
  •     Hazards & risks at maritime incidents.
  •     Ships construction & terminology.
  •     Initial considerations on arrival.
  •     Maritime operations. 
  •     Application of maritime incident command procedures Level 1.   

Assessment & certification

There is a pre-course e-learning assessment and the candidate is required to prepare a case study to present to the group to encourage learning through professional discussion.

This is a 2 day course which will require the delegate to deliver a case study/presentation on a Marine Incident and complete a practical maritime Level 1 ICS assessment on Day 2.
